But remember if wheel is not on the list it doesn't mean it will not gonna work. There can be just no profile for that wheel, so you need to setup it by yourself. But in some rare cases like Driveclub wheel can also just not work. If you are still not sure about compatibility, is good to browse some gaming forum, and search for [wheel name] [game name]. In theory most compatible are products licensed by $ony, but to be honest I doubt that HORI that is licensed will get better support in game like Project Cars, than not $ony supported Fanatec CSR. Read all needed info before buying anything. For example Thrustmaster T100 is not supported by $ony, but is currently best 270 degree wheel for PS4 T80 is good, but lack of Force Feedback, T100 don't have "share" button. Good compromise between price and quality is Thrustmaster T150 for now. Also please don't even think about "Compact Racing Wheel" and similar Dualshock4 add-ons, is worth nothing for sim racing games. Why $ony sucks this time? Because of drama about PS4 support by Fanatec company. Due to this any Fanatec racing wheel is for now not officially supported on PS4. Of course wheels are working in almost every games and Fanatec is still updating them for better compatibility. Most sim style games have even profiles for them. Last updated December 20th, 2021 Featured image Stream Deck button box on Thingiverse designed by Peter Winkler Even though many sim racing wheels have a comprehensive selection of buttons and rotary encoders on them, I still use a button box because it makes the entire sim experience more graceful, and perhaps more importantly, it just feels more authentic. In this guide, Iâm going to explain why you might also want to get a button box if you donât already have one, and Iâll show you some great examples of both pre-built units and a DIY solution in case youâre handy with a soldering iron. Before anything else, for those of you that maybe donât know what a button box is, as the name implies it is a box with buttons on it but to be technical, really it should be called a rotary encoder, toggle switch, and button box because they are not solely comprised of buttons, they offer a mixture of these three things or possibly more. Regardless, in essence, a sim racing button box is a control panel that plugs into your PC via USB as a separate USB game controller device allowing you to bind all those buttons and switches to a driving simulator and ultimately have more control over your car, without having to mess around with keyboards or in-game menu options while driving. Why you should buy a button box At this point, you might be thinking itâs a bit unnecessary to buy a button box if you already have a steering wheel with a bunch of buttons on it. Thatâs all well and good if you only want to race in one discipline such as Formula 1, since F1 rims have all the necessary buttons on them that you could need given the sheer complexity of Formula one cars. But what happens when you go from an F1 car to a vehicle that uses an oval wheel rim for example, and your oval wheel rim doesnât have the same buttons on it? Essentially you no longer have the ability to control the car in the same way you did with the F1 rim. Therefore, having a separate device that is always in the same place think muscle memory, consistently has the same options, and can be used across all your simulators, is just a really nice and convenient piece of kit to have. iRacing button mapping options screen â there are hundreds of mappable functions available It makes swapping from wheel rim to wheel rim much more elegant and less of a hassle. Another great thing about button boxes is how tactile and life-like they feel, which is especially beneficial for sim racers who like to wear gloves. Once you become accustomed to which button controls which function, it will become second nature to change your brake bias, camera mode, or anti-roll bar settings to name but a few. Buttons, switches and encoders As I touched on earlier, there are not only buttons to assign functions to on a button box, but also a few types of switches and knobs which may leave you wondering what jobs are assigned to each type of control, so below Iâve gone through some of the main mechanism categories to elaborate a bit further how each of them can benefit your gameplay. Push buttons Push buttons are the easiest types of controls to use and can be mapped to functions you often use like lap times, fuel, tyres, etc. Premium boxes will utilize push buttons with a perceivable amount of travel, and a certain heavy-duty feel to them, while more moderately priced units will have a lighter and less realistic feel. One-way and two-way toggle switches Real race cars commonly have toggle switches for many functions, and by having a combination of both one-way and two-way toggle switches you can map various functions more intuitively. In fact, with a simple programming procedure, you can convert any two-way toggle to function as a one-way toggle for even more flexibility. Some toggles are positioned to operate left-to-right to be more intuitive to use. Safety toggle switches Safety toggle switches incorporate a latch to ensure this switch is only flicked when you genuinely mean it. These controls are commonly mapped to functions like ignition or the pit lane speed limiter since these are functions that are on or off and do not want to hit these accidentally. Knobs and encoders Real race cars use large adjustment knobs to change the brake bias. Whether the knob adjusts a pivot point on the brake pedal or a valve in the hydraulic line, it requires some effort and several turns to adjust. Certain button boxes utilize a friction clutch to replicate the feeling of turning a mechanical adjustment and help the driver make slight adjustments. As for encoders, they are a unique type of knob. They are commonly mapped to functions with opposites such as increase/decrease, next/previous, left/right, and up/down. So now that youâre clued up on how advantageous a button box can be, and what sort of tasks you can assign to the buttons, letâs look at some of the best options for pre-built button boxes out there, and also how you can make one of your own if youâre so inclined. FYI, my recommendations are but a mere drop in the ocean in terms of the choice and availability of options out there, and there are many reputable manufacturers of sim racing equipment that sell button boxes. So, make sure to think about what functions youâll require to program into the box, what aesthetics you like, what mounting solution suits you best, and perhaps most importantly, what budget you have, before you buy. This article assumes you have connected your wheel and installed the software from the disc to your PC. This includes both the drivers and the Logitech Profiler . Solid Tip Your new Logitech G27 Racing Wheel is not powered by USB! Select Options > Global Device Settings and simply leave everything unchecked. That was certainly easy! The one change you should note here is Degrees of Rotation. Set this value to 900. This is the maximum rotation of the wheel. Donât worry Each game will have specific settings where you override the global value. Not everyone likes 900, so the default is set at 200. This provides an arcade driving experience and is nothing like a real vehicle. I change rotation depending on the game Iâm playing. Global Device Settings Step 2 Add Game Profiles Now we need to enter our games into the Profiler. Select New > Profile OR Select A Game > Create New Game Profile. Enter any name at the top, then Browse for the gameâs .exe file. Finally, select the icon to represent the game. Now your new game will appear in the list under Select A Game. Game Profiles Step 3 Cusomize Specific Game Settings The last step in calibrating our games based on their features. Since it is the game developerâs discretion to accommodate peripherals, not all games support all the features of the wheel. For instance, most games donât have support for the new LED shift indicator lights and cannot accept separate pedal inputs. Logitech offers Specific Game Settings to help you enjoy your wheel more. Select a game from your profile list from Profile > Select Profile OR Select A Game. Then select Edit > Specific Game Settings. Here you will override the global settings if needed. We set up the Global Device Settings from Step 1 in a specific manner so that your final choice is applied here. For example, if you had selected Report Combined Pedalsâ in the Global Settings, then they would always be combined, even you left the option unchecked here. To find your proper Specific Game Settings, refer to this articleâs Table of Contents at the top. You will also find details about feature support and tips on in-game settings such as Linearityâ or Steering Bars Sensitivity.â This article covers over a dozen of the top Racing Games over the last 3 years. Specific Game Settings Allow Game to Adjust Settings This is the most cryptic setting available in the Logitech Profiler. Seeing as how there is no manual, how is one supposed to decipher the meaning of this box? Also, why is it listed under another box, Use Special Game Settings,â which has no other options? This is a new feature that you should simply ignore. Here is what Logitech officially had to say This is a new mechanism that allows games to ask for the current settings such as âAre the pedals combined or separate?â. A game can also adjust those settings, so for example, rFactor could adjust the steering angle to match the angle of the simulated car, or force separate pedals even if people forgot to turn on separate pedals. The idea is to make it easier for people and reduce the amount of setup work they have to do. Just changing it back to 540 fixed it. 6 Sorted my wheel out, it helps if you give it power. I ran about 5 laps at Spa, returned to the pit box and went back out for 1-2 more and noticed the wheel felt a little lighter. Not sure what caused this. 7 Have the same thing, drives me nuts Hope to find a way around it or hopefully itâs a big and it will get patched. Gain 100 Min force 12 Road effects 33 Dynamic damping 50 Early days so I will try more settings later but I find the ffb a bit weak compared to other games where I usually run the gain about 45. 10 Itâs interesting isnât it. Initially I said this doesnât feel as good as AC. Either thatâs true, or itâs just taken me, and in that case all of us, a little time to get used to how ACC feels... Muscle memory and all that. Just like it takes time for me to get used to Battlefield after playing a bit of Far Cry for example. As I said before, this still feels miles better than anything else out there. Good to know the minimum force option has got rid of some of the deadzone. Canât say it bothers me too much but Iâll give it a go at 1% increments. Iâve yet to play any more since the Lambo last night but really started to get used to it and had a blast in a couple of races. Still had slight pullingâ in fast corners... And I really think an FOV setting would help with general feeling as well. Hopefully in next patch! I'm not sure if adjusting the brake gamma will help with the brake pedal?. I did a brief search last night, and the consensus is to leave it a "1" so it's linear. If that's the case, I hope the developers consider adding a brake and accelerator sensitivity feature as a patch. Does anyone think lowering the Dynamic Dampening and upping the Minimum Force will help with feeling the other details curbs, marbles, grass, etc.? I didn't mess around too much, as I was trying to learn a couple of tracks I haven't raced on in ages Zolder and Zandvoort. I currently have Gain and Road Effects at 95%. Everything else is default. 17 For me on G29 70 gain 12 minimum 20 road Zero on the other one 540 degree steering brakes 18 I also tried using my G29 in ACC and couldn't get it to feel nearly as good as the T150. Was really frustrated and disappointed with the game until I got the FFB settings sorted on the T150. Game feels awesome now in spite of the occasional input lag. Also, make sure you have total FFB effects set to 100 in the Thrustmaster software for the T150. That definitely made a difference in the overall quality of the feedback in ACC. It was set to 75 by default. Setting the steering lock to 900 in game also helped greatly. Iâve tried various settings posted on here, but my settings in my original post are still for me the best. I cannot get rid of this feeling of the wheel suddenly going light in some corners. No resistance whatsoever in the corner, right at the point where you need to feel what the car is doing. Zandvoort was almost impossible for me. Thereâs just no feeling there. Numb is definitely the word. Itâs so inconsistent as I had a good feeling last night with the Lambo at Misano. Same car in Zandvoort a day later felt awful. I have to go back to saying that AC had much better feel for me. If I could have that feeling in this Iâd be happy. At the mo, I feel thereâs lots of tweaking ahead and tbh, itâs getting a bit tiresome. I just want to enjoy driving in this game and right now I just donât. 22 Ok, I too have experienced this weird tug I to the corner. I too had to restart the game after I stepped away to feed my dogs. All in all I was gone 30min. My steering got really stiff and just restarted the game and it was fixed. The pulling issue felt weird. I probably had it happen like 3 times over the course of 2 hours. It's very noticeable but doesn't cause me any lose of control it's just very unnatural. 23 Been tinkering with the settings for the last hours and I still cannot get the G29 FFB to behave as I would like. Just seen that. Mad really isnât it. Hopefully these bugs will get ironed out over the coming months, but itâs frustrating they just went ahead and released it like this. Shouldâve known really with how long AC on console took to iron out some bugs. Then it was just abandoned. Iâm holding out hope for this though as thereâs a fantastic game in there. I do think FOV option would help with feel too. I like the cockpit cam with no wheel and the FOV is just too narrow at the mo. 27 The whole wheel pulling issues seems very track dependent to me. Driving the AMG some tracks such as Kyalami, Zolder, Brands Hatch, Suzuka feel alright, only slight pulling in the fast kinks. But on the other hand Mount Panorama, Silverstone and Eau Rouge/Radillion at Spa feel very bad. It feels a bit like the effect of bumps, dips and elevation changes are overblown on some tracks. But it seems that not everyone is getting it, even on same wheels. I think itâs easiest to spot at Silverstone, especially Abbey into Farm Curve, car pretty much drives itself there On top of that FFB is very numb, nowhere near as much detail as AC 28 As seen in other threads, having to change the steering ratio for each car every time is a bit ridiculous. There's no need to change the degrees of wheel rotation for each car. Since the G29 acknowledges 900 degrees of rotation, you should set it at 900 degrees initially. You want to do this so you have more precision when you steer. If you want a car to steer faster or slower, change the steering ratio for the car under the setup menu while at the track. Very car specific. Also with no proper brake calibration you have the stiff pedal if you've got a G920. Keeping the brake gamma at is just about ok. Any more than and you have to stand on it too much.
